Occasionally a non-traditional top six team comes up to hang out in the top six for the beginning of the season. It can be for a variety of reasons, mainly an ‘easy’ set of opening fixtures to the season.
Having said that, by gameweeks 7-8, this has started to settle down and teams take to their regular positions – but West Ham and also Southampton are still doing well to fly high – and both have done so without a reliance on so-called ‘easy’ fixtures.
West Ham grabbed an extremely convincing 3-1 home victory over Liverpool, and have already played Manchester United and Spurs.
Admittedly, the Hammers have only won 4 of their 8 games so far, but it’s enough to be (deservedly) sitting on top of the world/league.
