Alex Song (Barcelona)Liverpool are set to increase their already heavy summer spending according to Metro who think that the Reds are closing in on a move for Alex Song.

The midfielder has been deemed surplus to requirements by new Barca boss Luis Enrique and the Cules are happy to sell the player should any offer they deem acceptable come in for him.

Luckily for them, Brendan Rodgers has some cash to flash this summer from the sale of Luis Saurez – ironically to Barcelona – and is willing to hand £8 million of it back over to the La Liga side for the former Arsenal man.

Song has never really settled at the Camp Nou since his ill-fated move and it seems that despite links with Manchester United and indeed a return to former club Arsenal, it will be a move to Merseyside that comes to pass for the Cameroon star.

Liverpool fans. Is this the kind of signing that you need especially given Song knows the Premier League or do you think that Song is past his best? Let us know your thoughts below or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
