He did not make the final cut for the trip to Brazil and now that is looking like a little bit of a suspect decision by England boss Roy Hodgson.

Ashley Cole has never been the most popular of players, but one thing that has never been in doubt is his ability.

The left back has won it all at club level and has not fluked those wins either. He is world class and has been a vital part of the success enjoyed by Arsenal and after that, Chelsea.

Cole may have been released by Chelsea this summer after coming to the end of his contract and being ousted by Cesar Azpilicueta, but most fans would have given him a new one year deal.

The former England international still has plenty left to give, and we think that it would be a shame if he finished his career in a lesser league such as the MLS, not for his bank balance, but for the fact that he can offer a team so much.
