Cole and Terry might have missed out on Brazil, but it was only a short trip after all!

England are out. Shockingly. Now after only TWO games Roy Hodgson and his men have the indignity of watching group leaders Costa Rica rest players against them. Yes, that is right. Costa Rica will be resting players against England. Great.

A fair few people have pointed to the fact that some of the players selected – or more to the point omitted by Roy Hodgson may have made a difference and we cannot see that being the case with anyone more than Ashley Cole.

The player missed out as Hodgson chose to take Leighton Baines and indeed the young Luke Shaw – and saw Baines struggle and indeed cause more problems than he solved against Italy in the opening group defat.

Terry meanwhile retired from international football after a host of scandals made his position untenable but there was more than one suggestion that Hodgson should have spoken with the Chelsea defender who had the season of his life at the club.

We cannot help but find it particulary entertaining then that both Terry and Cole are pictured here, looking into the distance, presumably at the England squad making their way back from Brazil – far earlier than they had originally planned to!
