Rio FerdinandRio Ferdinand has made no secret of the fact he would quite fancy a new deal at Manchester United, but the Mirror Sport seem to think there could well be another option for him.

Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger are known to be admirers of the player and it seems that  they are willing to swoop for the defender should Manchester United refuse to offer the veteran a new deal.

Interim United manager Ryan Giggs has made it clear that he feels the board should at least offer the former England international a 12 month extension on his current deal.

With the likes of Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra looking to leave in the summer, experience next season could be vital and Ferdinand of course provides that in abundance.

Arsenal are not the only club keen on landing Rio, with a host of top names both in the MLS and also across Europe considering offering the 35 year old a final swansong in football.

Much of Ferdinand’s future could well depend on the decisions of manager elect Louis van Gaal, who we know is set to join the club in the summer.

Do you think United will offer Ferdinand a new deal or will there be a shock switch for the centre back? Let us know your thoughts below or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
