John Obi Mikel

He is often criminally overrated, but Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is our player of the week after a flawless display against Liverpool at Anfield.

Not only has Mikel been a shield in front of the back four in the league, he has also once again proven his worth in the Champions League being a vital cog in Jose Mourinho’s well oiled machine against Atletico Madrid.

All so often criticised – even by his own fans – Mikel has shown composure and a head beyond his years in the last few games and once again reminded us how good he can be in the business end of the season.

Effectively playing as a third centre back, the shield that Mikel provides for the back four is second to none and the 27 year old seemed to get either his head or foot to everything that came his way at Anfield.

Given the absence of Petr Cech, it is more vital than ever that the Chelsea defence are on form, and luckily for Jose Mourinho, Mikel is having a rather good spell indeed.
