After taking over from Ian Holloway in November, Tony Pulis has changed the Eagles’ fortunes transforming them from bottom three no-hopers to sitting comfortably in the top half of the table.
Following the Liverpool v Chelsea match, City knew a win at Selhurst Park would put them back in prime position to fight for the title and this must have been playing over in their minds.
City started the game brightly, resembling their form of earlier in the season and within four minutes of kick off Edin Dzeko scored with his head to give his side an early boost.
The home side continued to chase the game perhaps recalling giant killing victories against Everton and Chelsea but never looked likely to pull off the win this time.
Another City goal scored this time by powerful midfielder Yaya Toure, who has notably been absent for parts of this season, gave the northern club a 2-0 lead.
With only two shots on target the Eagles were outplayed but do not have to worry about staying up this season as their survival is assured.
City, with their game in hand, are back to being favourites in a title race that might still have some surprises for all three teams still in contention.
