Billed as the game of the season and one that would go a long way to deciding who wins the title meant the football community were watching this match very closely.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho hinted earlier in the week that he would possibly field a weakened squad with eyes predominately on their Champions League second leg only three days later, but on the day the Blues gave starts to mostly experienced players like Frank Lampard and Demba Ba.
The first half was all Liverpool’s as Mourinho’s men took onslaught after onslaught.
The Blues defended well and on one of their few opportunities to counter attack a slip by Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard allowed Ba to go one on one with the keeper and ultimately put his team up 1-0 moments before the break.
Continuing their defensive master class, Chelsea held on to their lead and with only stoppage time to be played the Blues broke away once more resulting in Fernando Torres assisting Willian to win the tie 2-0.
Liverpool’s title hopes have taken a huge denting though post match, once again, Jose Mourinho has ruled his side out of contention.
That said, with the season drawing to a close the title race is still very much open and will surely keep us all guessing who will be victorious right until the final matches are played.
