The Hammers welcomed title chasing Liverpool to Upton Park as they fight on for their first Premier League trophy since 1990.
Ex-Liverpool striker Andy Carroll started up front for a West Ham that had won their last two league games, while the Red’s had the enviable partnership of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge who have a combined 49 goals this season.
For much of the 90 minutes, Liverpool found it hard to cut through West Ham’s defence as they noticeably broke up Liverpool’s rhythm but by the final whistle Brendan Rodgers men came out on top, 2-1.
Unfortunately the game was marred by controversial decisions which saw Liverpool receive two penalties and a West Ham goal allowed to stand even after Carroll was seen to foul keeper Simon Mignolet.
