Smalling has so much potential

The last few months haven’t been ideal for Chris Smalling. Injuries, playing out of position etc. However, he was a rock at the back against Liverpool showing the potential he has in his natural position. More than likely, Ferdinand won’t play on after this season and while Vidic is fit at the moment the United captain has suffered his injuries and at 31 age is catching up with him.

Jones and Smalling were seen as the future of the defence but with uncertainties on where Jones will play long term and Evans form it’s easy to see Smalling as a mainstay for years to come.
