After taking the Championship by storm last year, Malky Mackay’s Cardiff were still tipped by many to kick on and establish themselves in the top flight of English football. Bringing in Steven Caulker will only make that goal a whole lot easier. Already an England International (and goalscorer) at the tender age of just 21, it looked like Caulker would go on to cement his place in the Tottenham first team. However, for some bizarre reason, in his infinite wisdom AVB decided that the very limited – I’m being both kind and generous here – Michael Dawson was the better option. Madness. Well Tottenham’s loss is most certainly Cardiff’s gain, as one of the most promising centre backs around joins their ranks. Expect Spurs to buy him back for a considerably larger fee in a few years’ time – see Younes Kaboul for a blueprint on what Spurs do with young centre backs.
