Man Utd are an interesting comparison to Aston Villa and Crystal Palace as while Villa and Palace improved drastically because of a change in Manager, United’s difficult start was owing to a change in Manager. Dutchman Louis van Gaal was brought in prior to the start of the season to revive the lack luster performances witnessed under David Moyes – and initially it wasn’t an improvement.
Manchester United started poorly – they lost to Swansea, drew with Burley and Sunderland, and got slammed 5-3 by Leicester. Instead of panicking and dismissing Van Gaal, United have regrouped and learned from their mistakes.
Manchester United have steadily climbed up the table, and their emphatic 4-2 victory against rivals Manchester City has all but cemented their place in the top four – and in a position above a Manchester City who started so much stronger.
