Back in April Chelsea, like now, were on a run of unbeaten games.
Including both Jose Mourinho’s first stint in charge of the Blues and his second, Chelsea hadn’t been beaten at home for 77 games under the charismatic leader.
That incredible record was brought to an unlikely end by Poyet’s Sunderland and effectively ended their title chances.
The draw on Saturday afternoon wasn’t quite as remarkable but Sunderland have still somewhat curbed the Blues’ momentum as they proved a good defensive display can hold back a team even as creative as a club already expected to win the league.
