After a crushing 3-0 defeat to local arch-rivals Man City, United needed an uplifting performance as the discontent from some supporters regarding manager David Moyes’ ongoing employment reached a high.
The match began with a supporter funded flying banner displaying ‘Wrong One-Moyes Out’ in big bold letters.
It was certainly not the best start for the Red Devil’s and it looked to be another bad afternoon for Moyes as Villa’s Ashley Westwood opened the scoring with a well taken free-kick.
But not willing to lay down United showed character and took back control with goals from Juan Mata, Javier Hernandez and a brace from Wayne Rooney to claim all three points and importantly, something for the fans at Old Trafford to cheer about.
