Labelled as the tie of the weekend, the match had a lot to live up to and entertain it did.
Liverpool had an explosive first half with goals coming from both Raheem Sterling and Martin Skrtel to ensure that Manchester City were chasing the game early on.
Just before half time City finally woke up and began to make chances of their own.
This onslaught continued in the second half with the majority of shots coming from City.
David Silva converted one and an unfortunate own goal from Glen Johnson made it 2-2 with 30 minutes playing time left.
Both teams battled it out believing the three points could be won but it was Liverpool who were victorious as Philippe Coutinho ensured Liverpool stay top of the table.
The season is by no means over but Liverpool have taken a huge step closer to that elusive trophy.
