When United released their team sheet, the first thought was the dreaded return of the 3-5-2 formation. But, is was actually a 4-3-3, with Daley Blind dropping back and filling in as a defender – a role he played better than expected.
Rooney was still being played up front, with help from Mata and Ashley Young. Playing not only an outstanding Carrick, but Mata and Herrera together made all the difference.
They were a rejuvenated United, with pace and tempo. If only they had played like this all season!
