SterlinghAccording to Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, the new contract offer on the table for winger Raheem Sterling is ‘incredible.’

Not, according to Sterling’s agents incredible enough, with reports claiming that the Reds will see their offer rejected and the player hold out for more money.

That is not ideal for the club or their manager Brendan Rodgers, who seems to be coming under increasing pressure after seeing his hopes of a League Cup final end and Chelsea beat them to Wembley. That is not all that has the fans antsy this season, with a Champions League exit that raised eyebrows and a fight for the top four that could well go down to the wire and see the Reds miss out.

It is more vital than ever that Sterling pens a new deal with the club and shows that he thinks they can match his ambitions going forward. It would be a marker for the rest of the Premier League and get other clubs around Europe sitting up and taking note. That being said, the question of just how much a player is worth has to be asked.

Sterling has much to prove in the Premier League and despite being a star last season and most of this one, he is still young and developing. He could well have simply peaked early or fail to become a player who can do it for 90 minutes week in, week out. No player is bigger than the club they play for and whilst it is understandable that Liverpool are desperate to keep their man, they have to realise there is only so many concessions they can make – and begin to play hardball with Sterling and his agent.

Liverpool fans. How much money do you think Sterling is worth? Is this all because of his agent? Let us know your thoughts below, become a guest blogger or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
