Have West Ham found the free transfer to save their season?

NeneIt was a weekend to forget for West Ham United fans, who saw their side dumped out of the FA Cup and reduced to ten men for the second time in a week.

That was far from ideal, but the Upton Park faithful were right to be more  concerned over the news that Andy Carroll will miss the rest of the season after becoming injured once again. Shocking we know.

That of course threw up questions about just where the goals would come from and with the transfer market now closed, the options seemed limited. That was before rumours of an arrival for free agent Nene emerged.

The player is not tied to any club at the minute after cancelling his contract with Qatar side Al Gharafa and could join the east London club as soon as a deal is hashed out.

While at this point any option is a good option (because let’s face it, do you really want to be relying on Carlton Cole to get you into the top six) fans would be forgiven for thinking that scoring 20 goals in 43 games for a club that few people have even heard of is slightly different to finding the back of the net in the top flight of English football.

Nene is a so called free kick specialist and does have an eye for goal, boasting close to a 1 in 2 record during his time with Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain, where he scored 36 goals in 79 games, but again doing it in the Premier League is very different.

It is an option for Allardyce to consider and one of the few he actually has at the minute – so the mantra of just what does he have to lose is certainly a valid one.

West Ham fans. Is your season in danger of ending too soon? Will Nene be the man to breathe some life into it? Let us know your thoughts  below, become a guest blogger or tweet us @LaFootyettes.

Have to agree with that one Paul. Considering players who tend to rack up the goals in Holland can’t cut it in England, you have to wonder about someone coming from Qatar!
