Have Everton made a mistake not letting this troublemaker leave before deadline day?

MirallasEverton may have managed to bring Aaron Lennon into the club before transfer deadline day passed, but one thing that they did not do was sell Kevin Mirallas.

The player who managed to gain a huge amount of criticism for his penalty debacle against West Bromwich Albion and has made it clear that he feels bigger and better things are on the horizon for him – and could well have left the club this January after his contract began to run into the danger zone for extension.

Of course there is still hope – if Everton fans want to call it that of course – that Mirallas will pen a new deal at the club and extend his current stay, and as we know more than one player has hinted at a move away from a club after deciding that he wants to hold them to ransom in terms of an improved deal and it is not out of the realms of possibility that is what is happening there.

Everton as a club are not ones to throw away cash – not that they even have it to do so, and will not be looking to dramatically raise any offer that is on the table for the player at the minute, especially given he has claimed he is in the market for ‘a new challenge’ and is desperate to play in the Champions League – something that rumoured suitors Atletico Madrid can offer him.

There is no sense in keeping a player who does not want to be at a club, even the staunchest of Mirallas fans who frequent Goodison Park will know that, but you can never fully close a door in football – and with the Europa League winners qualifying for the Champions League, there is an outside chance that Everton might actually have the upper hand come the summer.

Everton fans. Would you still like to convince Mirallas to sign a new deal at the club? Let us know your thoughts below, become a guest blogger or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
