Five reasons Tottenham Hotspur star Eriksen is better than Hazard et al

His rivals are working with far better playersAfter a string of impressive performances, the already bright star atop of Christian Eriksen’s head is glowing even brighter.

That has of course prompted comparisons between the Tottenham Hotspur ace and his peers, and the question of just how good Eriksen actually is.

Now whilst we are massive fans of Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Arjen Robben, there are actually a couple of pretty decent arguments to state that the Spurs man actually brings more to his side and is better to watch – especially considering he is only 23 years old and cost £11 million, which is nothing in the modern game.

With that in mind, we have come up with five reasons the Dane is actually a better shout than his rivals and here they are!

Click on Eriksen himself to see just why we think he is heads and shoulders above his peers.

He is great value for money

Spurs fans. How highly do you rate Eriksen? Is he one of the best players you’ve seen in recent seasons? Let us know your thoughts below, become a guest blogger or tweet us @LaFootyettes.

Not a personal point of view held Martin, simply an alternative one.

Understand, it’s just that when he gets the ball, like Henry, Zola etc….. They make things happen.

There may be 5 reasons Eriksen gets the nod, that’s not to say there aren’t 500 reasons for Hazard. The ball sticks to Hazard’s feet like glue at times. Even Robben wasn’t quite at that level for me during his spell at CFC. Stunning player but not THE man unlike Hazard.

This article are good, cause is spot on, CE23 an Eden hazard , are fighting who are PL best central Midfielder and i like both, they should be on same team. i willl call it a equel.
And when that is said, they allready put alot of “big” names agains the wall, thats includning alot of strikers.

When Hazard doesn’t perform in a match what’s the headline…and when Erickson doesn’t??? The headlines speaks volumes about which is better.

You made some interesting points and some good ones but the one about him not having anything near Chelsea or even Arsenal is a stupid statement. There are good players at Spurs as well. Kane is a superb forward miles better than anything Arsenal have up front outside of Sanchez. Lloris is a world class keeper. Chadli and Vertonghen are a top class player as well. Players like Lamela, Mason, Bentaleb, Dier, Walker and even Dembele are all classy young players with huge potential. Arsenal are in a similar position in the league because the teams are close in standard, Chelsea have a stronger side alright, but spurs have an excellent coach now and an exciting and very young side, with two players who are already becoming stars; Kane and Eriksen. Do your research better before making statements.

Fully agree they have good players – Kane is a revelation and Lloris one of the top keepers out there for sure. In terms of a finished product though, Spurs are nowhere near Chelsea or even some of the AFC players Wenger has been ‘transitioning’ for years. To use a Mourinhoism, the Spurs side are little horses who need milk.

Wenger hasn’t transitioned them, that’s the point though. In don’t know how you can say Spurs are nowhere near Arsenal’s squad. Even in all the turmoil of the past couple of years with Spurs losing three world class players they were still close to Arsenal and are now rebuilding strongly. Don’t be surprised if Spurs finish ahead of Arsenal this year. Our players are good and getting better, Arsenal look the same as the last 7 years. Also note that in the last 6 weeks Spurs beat both Chelsea and Arsenal in head to heads. We are as strong as Arsenal and a level behind Chelsea alright, but not nowhere near. Spurs wouldn’t be a good shout for the top four and winning the Europa if they were nowhere near. Nowhere near is Swansea or Everton, who are a level behind Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool.

The transitioning comment was sarcasm but the fact that the arsenal players have far more experience than a young spurs squad is unquestionable. Players like Ozil and Alexis are title winners who are used to playing in the Champions League and competing on multiple fronts. In terms of comparing to the likes of Chelsea, spurs are nowhere near them and won’t be for some time if ever. There’s no doubt that Spurs have some quality players but they’re learning the craft and are unproven. Chelsea have title winners and champions league winners. Even taking someone like Drogba who is past his best, his experience and been there done that attitude will help Hazard massively. Spurs haven’t won anything yet, they haven’t been a top four club consistently like arsenal which yes, for me isn’t actually anything to brag about given where they should be, but even looking at City in Europe, it takes time to get used to how to play and navigate your way through the competition. Arsenal do to a point – spurs haven’t. If they win the Europa League or League Cup then things might start to change but for now, their players and manager are leaning and improving all the time. Arsenal and Chelsea have a manager who has been there and won the league etc. It’s not a slight on spurs at all just the way I see it. Had Bale and Modric stayed you can only imagine where they’d be now.

Spot on. When you look at arsenal’s signings and wage bills, realistically they should be higher up the league. Wenger’s problem is he is not strengthening his team wisely. They’ve not had a top class holding midfielder (coquelin is not gilberto/edu as yet) and back four since their last league title. Spurs on the other hand, are finding their feet and building a new identity under Poch’s tutelage. Sure they have some decent players around Eriksen, but bar Lloris, how many would walk into Chelsea’s or Man City’s first 11? Kane has a good season thus far, but he can only be considered world class if he can prove his consistency. Vertonghen is good but still susceptible to being caught out during games.

RE: the article, I would have to agree Eriksen is better when you factor in his age, the economics. Beyond that, Hazard is better as he has been a more consistent player.

I more took umbrage with the nowhere near comment. That’s clearly not the case with Arsenal (the gap has been near zero for years now) and its not even true with Chelsea either if you are capable of outplaying them, which we’ve done already this year. Spurs are behind Chelsea, no doubt, and won’t be favourites in the league cup final, but if we were nowhere near there wouldn’t be anticipation of a tight final on March the 1st, that may even go to spurs.

You’re right that Spurs may never get to title challenging. There’s a continual problem that despite exceptional training facilities, academy and development of players it is always one step back two forward cycles at spurs. Currently they are redeveloping again.

Until the new stadium is built spurs will continually be raided when they build a very good team. The wage structure isn’t there to build a regular title challenger, so competing with inflated clubs like Man City and Chelsea is an uphill struggle, as is getting a team to fruition to get into the cl regularly.

But it is a very well run club, that usually rebuilds the team and squad stronger again with some Eriksen type purchases in greater depth. Along with a great coach and a superb under 21 team with some real stars that is now breaking into the first team some magic may be able to be created, even before the new Lane gives greater hope.

It would be good for the league and football in general. I don’t say that from the biased point of view either because I’d like to see Liverpool do it as well, who operate a similar style of play and player development under Rodgers.

Wenger makes mistakes in recruitment and tactically, his time is probably coming with Spurs, Liverpool and United (with mega spending) looking like they are getting stronger and stronger.
