When news of Marco Reus’ new deal filtered down to Manchester United fans, there was an understandable amount of disappointment.
One of the best creative stars in world football looked odds on to leave his current club Borussia Dortmund this summer – yet decided to put pen to paper on a new deal that not only secured his future in the Bundesliga but also removed the £20 million release clause that would have made landing him an utter bargain.
Despite the new deal, there have been multiple occasions in the past where a contract has not been worth the paper it was written on – yes, Luis Saurez, we are looking at you – and players have departed the club regardless.
