Luiz may be the ultimate geezer and a player who seems unaffected by the celebrity trappings of modern day football, but he is not a very good defender.
He has his staunch fans and can move the ball forward and take a wicked free kick but that is where his qualities end. Jose Mourinho requires someone like John Terry at the heart of his defence – a defender who lives and breathes to stop the ball getting into the back of the net.
Luiz is more concerned with moving it forward – and while he had his moments in a Chelsea shirt, you only needed to watch how his World Cup ended to see why he never had a future under Mourinho.
