You do not have to be Jose Mourinho to know that Hazard is one of the most fouled players in the league – getting taken out every 30 minutes on average compared to say Ronaldo’s average of every 55 minutes for Real Madrid or Lionel Messi’s 124 minutes for Barca – and Hazard has accounted for a quarter of all Chelsea’s fouls this season – and they are just the ones that have been given.
That is not to say Eriksen has not been tackled unfairly or opposition defenders have not resorted to the dark arts to keep him quiet, but Hazard’s treatment takes it to a whole new level. At times, the ball sticks to the 24 year old like glue and you cannot get him away from it or stop him running at the defence – unless you bring him down and to his credit, he gets back up and carries on.
Chelsea have been hard done by when it comes to spot kicks this term, only picking up one every 13 games compared with say Manchester City who have one every 3.7 games, but they have played an hour more than any other side against ten men – and that is down to the fouls Hazard draws.
