Most managers who have been around the game for some time already have backroom staff in place who they know and trust.
That is not really the case with Sherwood and he will now have to find an assistant manager who can come in and help him keep Villa up – and there are not too many who have the experience to balance out Sherwood’s naivety that would be happy to work under such a young and unproven manager.
Sherwood may have been one of the names linked to just about every managerial vacancy since leaving White Hart Lane, but there is a reason he did not find a job until Villa came calling – and it smacks of a panic appointment.
