In the opening months of the season, you could forgive LVG for chopping and changing his starting XI given he could not seem to keep half his players fit, but now there is no excuse.
We have seen that three at the back does not work with the players at the Dutchman’s disposal and there are questions over just who he should be playing up front to boot. On current form, Radamel Falcao does not deserve a place in the XI, and with Robin van Persie ending the weekend on crutches, United may well have to do some rejigging again – and with the likes of Juan Mata now being used as a super sub, it is not like Van Gaal is deprived of top quality options.
United are a 4-4-2 club and need to get back to their best formation and use their best players in their natural positions if they want to finish in the top four.
