After their bravery, there is no reason Celtic cannot win at the San Siro

deila v interIt was billed as the tie of the round and Celtic certainly did not disappoint when they hosted Serie A side Inter Milan in the last 32 of the Europa League.

The SPL side went into the match with plenty of optimism after really hitting form domestically and it was their mentality, not the display produced on the field that will see them head to the San Siro for the second leg still in with a shout of progressing in the competition.

To concede an early goal at home is never good and can shake even the best sides, but to ship two goals is simply awful and you could forgive the players for mentally switching to damage control – or worse, switching off altogether and considering the tie a lost cause.

That would not happen at Celtic Park on a rocking European night however. The fans simply would not allow it for a start – and said fans, who were brilliant all night, were behind their team from the get go.

Celtic managed to come from behind an astonishing three times – and after pegging Inter back to 2-2 and then seeing a third goal for the Italians hit the back of their net, most people considered the tie over and assumed the next goal would be a fourth for Roberto Mancini’s men – before John Guidetti stepped up obviously.

At 3-3, Inter will be the favourites for the second leg with those vital away goals, but Celtic have done what many would have thought impossible after 13 minutes and managed to get themselves in with a shout of progressing.

It was a night riddled with mistakes from both sides and very few players really showed that they were at the top of their game – but the mentality Ronny Deila has installed in his men made up for that ten fold.

Deila lavished praise on his side claimed: ‘We have talked about being brave and I’m very proud because we caused them problems and got a result in the end.’

It is that mentality and the late goal that will not only show the Bhoys that they can go through in the tie but also no matter what the score at the San Siro, they still have hope.

Celtic fans. How proud are you of your team? What are you expecting from the game at the San Siro now? Let us know your thoughts below, become a guest blogger or tweet us @LaFootyettes.

What a night! Once again Celtic Park was “rocking” on Europa night. And once again the fans did not let the team down. After going two down and coming back and one again going another behind and coming back again .! I Had my own thoughts on Ronnie Bhoy” but over the passed month or so he is slowly getting me on his side. As Celtic`s manager I would be behind him but he has now got the team doing it his way I am more than behind him. What a night!! H H

Given it was heart stopping for the neutrals, I can’t imagine how fans of either side felt! Inter will be favourites but I can easily see Celtic getting a couple of goals at the San Siro. You have to hope they won’t gift any to Inter in the same way either and if that’s the case, an upset could be on the cards.
