kris commonsNo club is immune to speculation during the January transfer window and when one of your key players is approaching the last six months of a contract, it is never an easy time.

Luckily for Celtic, Kris Commons has chosen to end the constant questions over his future and put pen to paper on a two year deal that will ensure his focus remains on the SPL club for the rest of the season – something that was becoming a bit of an issue with the constant questions over where he would be playing his trade come the end of the summer.

Speaking to the official Celtic website after penning his new deal, Commons noted: ‘It feels awesome, it’s a great feeling. It’s a huge burden off my shoulders and I can concentrate on the proper stuff, playing football and winning trophies for this club. I am delighted and absolutely buzzing.’

The deal will take him until 2017, and that will obviously put both his and Celtic’s minds to rest for the foreseeable future. Yes, a bid could still come in for Commons in the summer, with Bolton manager Neil Lennon keen on the playmaker, but the fact of the matter is the extended contact will mean that unless Celtic want to sell for big money, now they won’t have to.

The player himself has also made it clear that he wants to focus on getting as many trophies this season as possible and with things really starting to pick up for the club now, the SPL title, the League Cup and the Scottish Cup are looking like being in their grasp.

The one trophy the club would love to land however would be the Europa League, yet with one of the toughest ties of the whole round against Inter Milan, the squad will have to be at their very best to see that happen – making the resolved situation around Commons’ new deal all the more important.
