Their summer transfer window was excellentAll the talk may be about goalkeeping sensation Adrian in east London at the minute but there is another West Ham United player causing headlines today.

Alex Song has now been linked with a permanent move to the Hammers in the Spanish press, with Marca claiming that Barcelona could well be about to enter into talks with the club over the switch that could make him a West Ham player full time – and with Liverpool reportedly circling that could be the best thing Sam Allardyce and his board could possibly do this winter.

Consolidating what is shaping up to be a very good squad indeed is the only thing West Ham need to focus on this January – well that and getting into the next round of the FA Cup now their replay is out of the way and also continuing their assault on the top six of the Premier League.

There is no denying Song has added another dimension to Sam Allardyce’s side – and landing him on a permanent deal could well be the difference between the Hammers moving forward and consolidating the status of a club in the upper echelons of the English league to going back to a relegation scrap after this season.

We have seen what happens when clubs who have the fan base and ability to become a top six club sell their best players time and time again – their potential is wasted, their board gets abuse and the only people who really suffer are the fans. Luckily for the Hammers, a brilliant summer saw their purchases go far beyond the loan spell of Song – and it has shown in both their results and their style of play this season.

Everyone from keeper Adrian to forward Andy Carroll have made an impact this term – and the mood around the club reflects all of that, and so it should.

The icing on the cake would now be to unveil their star man in the middle of the park on a long term deal for seasons to come.

West Ham fans. Do you think another club will come in and land Song or will any deal be done in the summer? Let us know your thoughts below, become a guest blogger or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
