Newcastle United would be WRONG to make a second approach for M’Baye Niang

M'Baye NiangIt is pretty hard to imagine Newcastle United fans talking about anything other than their next manager at the minute but given they have reportedly made a loan attempt for M’Baye Niang, the conversation could well be about to change for the Toon Army.

The general (and correct) consensus is that the Magpies have not scored enough goals this season and it seems that their owner, who may or may not be selling the club, is willing to try and rectify this.

In true Mike Ashley style, that will not be by shelling out big money to bring a top name forward to the club, but by trying to convince AC Milan that they need to loan them versatile forward Niang.

Despite Serie A side AC Milan rebuffing the first attempt by the Premier League club, reports in Italy claim that they would be willing to offload the player if the deal is right – and as we all know that translates to cold, hard cash – something Ashley is rather tight with.

That could well turn out to be a good thing, with Niang simply not the man needed at St James Park.

Not only would it be hard for the player to adjust to six months in a new league and make an impact for the Magpies, it would also be unlikely that he really would make a difference to the forward line given in his loan spell with French side Montpellier last term, he only managed to net a handful of goals, make a whole heap of legal trouble for himself, get an 18 month suspended prison sentence and be promptly shipped back to Italy come the end of the season.

Newcastle need a proven, tried and tested striker who can cut it at Premier League level – and a relatively unknown player who is only 20 years of age is not going to be that man – least of all because the last thing the club need is another Facundo Ferreyra!

Newcastle United fans. Do you think that Niang is the man to help your attacking line? Let us know your thoughts below, become a guest blogger or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
