John Carver deserves a chance as Newcastle United manager for this reason alone

A manager cannot succeed without the support of his players.

That is a tried and tested fact of football, and whilst Newcastle United caretaker boss John Carver may not be here to stay, he has certainly managed to check that one vital requirement off the potential list of issues that could’ve caused him problems.

Not only are the squad fully supportive of their caretaker head coach, the formerly unsettled Remy Cabella has come out and gushed about his gaffer, making it clear it is Carver who is responsible for his form of late.

Given any Newcastle United boss going forward has to work with what he has, and not rely on bringing in his own men, the fact that Carver has already managed to do that with one of his current squad speaks volumes.

Remy Cabella has lauded the impact the stand-in boss has had on his performances and confidence and noted that he has now been included in the team and is getting more and more game time  – and has full confidence in his manager.

That is something that was clearly lacking between Alan Pardew and Cabella – and whilst the talent possessed by the creative star was never in doubt, his execution of it and indeed Pardew’s management of it was.

Carver seems to be having no such issues and despite the results not being the best of late, the squad does seem settled.

Not only are the Magpies trying to navigate where they want to go without a permanent manager at the helm, they also have the January transfer window to worry about and the African Cup of Nations, which, in no uncertain terms, has caused them massive issues with the loss of key players.

Carver is working with what he currently has – and with rumours abound that Mike Ashley and the board will now hold off until the summer before they make any permanent appointment in terms of their next manager, it seems that the caretaker boss could be set to stay.

If that is the case, at least he has the backing of his players and we could well see the best from Cabella to boot – and that would be a sight to behold.
