Could caution see Manchester United miss out on Radamel Falcao?

Radamel Falcao The majority of Manchester United fans were thrilled when the club landed Radamel Falcao on transfer deadline day in the summer, but fast forward a few months and there are now some very real doubts over the forward’s long term future at the club.

United have an option to buy Falcao from Monaco at the end of this £12 million season long loan – and it seems that their hesitancy in doing that could well come back to haunt them, with Real Madrid now finally making a move for the forward they have been linked so heavily with over the past few years.

According to Metro, the Champions of Europe are now weighing up a massive bid for the Columbian, who is a proven success in La Liga – and more specifically in Madrid, having been prolific during his time at neighbours Atletico Madrid.

Falcao has long made it clear that his biggest dream is to play for Real Madrid – and would probably take a move back to Spain over extending his stay at Old Trafford, meaning that United now face a very real danger of missing out on the player altogether come the end of the season.

Their caution is understandable given the fitness worries over the player and the fact that manager Louis van Gaal seems to favour Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and even young starlet James Wilson ahead of Falcao.

To shell out nearly £50 million more on a player who has not really set the league alight since joining is a huge gamble and not one that United can afford to take given the Financial Fair Play regulations now in place and the fact that they missed out on Champions League money this term to boot. That and the fact that Edinson Cavani looks to be on the move once again.

The second half of the season is shaping up to be one that will be crucial to not only Louis van Gaal and the Red Devils but also to Falcao’s long term future as well.

Manchester United fans. Would you be willing to gamble in order to secure Falcao’s future at Old Trafford? Let us know your thoughts below, become a guest blogger or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
