Will Blind’s injury finally hand a chance to Manchester United man Herrera?

herreraIt is funny how quickly things can change and turn around in football.

Only a week ago, Daley Blind was being hailed as the man to lead Manchester United this season, the one who could slot in at the back or in the middle and make a real difference to the side, and Ander Herrera was being linked with a shock January exit after less than half a year at the club.

Now however Blind is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines and the forgotten man from the Basque seems set to be handed another chance to impress Louis van Gaal.

Now whilst it may be more of a chance by default, literally because all other players are unavailable or injured, sometimes in football, these chances -when taken with both hands – can make a huge difference in a player’s career and even turn a bad spell around.

It is ironic that the very same injury issues that have dogged Herrera are now causing Blind issues and with at least a month out, there is a spot up for grabs in the United starting line up.

Herrera did get off to a great start at the club and impressed pundits and fans alike, yet after niggling injuries and a bit of a stop start time since then, it had been claimed that a £19 million move away from Old Trafford was being considered by both the player and the club as the transfer window draws closer and closer to approaching.

However now that could all turn around and whilst there has been no doubting the quality Herrera possessed, there has been questions over his ability to break into the first team when the likes of Blind were staring and fit.

Ideally, you have to envisage that a Blind Herrera axis would be the idea solution for United fans and their manager – but of course that would require both to be fit and in form, something that seems like the impossible dream at the minute!

Manchester United fans. Would you like to see Herrera grab this chance with both hands? Can he be a success? Let us know your thoughts below or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
