Manchester United eye Carlo Ancelotti but that would be a HUGE mistake

ancelottiUsually when Manchester United are linked with a swoop for anyone in the white of Real Madrid, it is a return for their former hero Cristiano Ronaldo, however this time they are after someone else all together.

Should you believe Metro, the Red Devils are eyeing a move for manager Carlo Ancelotti, who of course knows the Premier League well having won the league during his time with Chelsea – and is a winner through and through, both domestically and abroad.

Now before we get into the question of if Ancelotti would even consider leaving Real Madrid, the simple fact of the matter is that Louis van Gaal needs more time to adjust at the club and is actually doing a pretty good job when you consider the sheer amount of injuries he has had to contend with.

Not only that but the United squad he inherited were broken, unbalanced and pretty low on confidence, with their star forward Robin van Persie still smarting from the unexpected departure of Alex Ferguson –  who told him he would be manager for at least the next three seasons.

United are back in the top four of the Premier League, have finally recorded an away win – at the Emirates Stadium no less- and they are looking more and more like a team with each passing game.

Sacking a manager only a season into his contract – and you have to assume that is what would happen given Ancelotti would not leave a table topping Real Madrid half way through a campaign they could lift the Primera trophy in – would be a massive error by the United board.

Van Gaal is slowly but surely getting used to the job, and you cannot forget that getting back into club management after being involved in the international set up for so long is a big change, and he has plenty more to offer United.

He is bringing out the best in players like Marouane Fellaini, bringing youth players into the first team set up and is actually getting the team to perform as a collective rather than individuals.

Yes, they have massive issues in terms of injuries and their defence – but Van Gaal is no Arsene Wenger. He is not deluded and fully understands this and wants to bring in a couple of world class defenders when the time is right – and get those serious injuries sorted out.

There is no doubting that Carlo Ancelotti is a quality manager, his trophy haul makes that very clear, but he is no more suited to the United job than Van Gaal is – and the quicker the United board realise this the better for the club.
