The Dutch striker, who signed from Arsenal in 2012, has claimed that ex-Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson promised he’d be staying at the club for another three years when Robin van Persie agreed to join.
Surprisingly for the 31 year old Ferguson retired less than 12 months later.
In his first season the forward scored 26 league goals which crucially helped United win their 20th Premier League title.
Since then Van Persie has struggled to recreate the highs of his first season under both David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, partly due to injuries and partly due to lack of form.
