Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois needs to keep his opinions to himself!

Thibaut Courtois is too good to be droppedLike Thibaut Courtois, Love Petr Cech.

That is the general consensus when you talk to most Chelsea fans and ask them just how they feel about their two goalkeepers and you can hardly blame them.

After seeing Courtois come in and take over the number one shirt from long serving hero Cech, fans have been split on just what should happen to Cech now.

Some want to keep him at the club as their back up option, admitting that no matter how much love and sentimentality they hold for Cech, Courtois has simply been too good to drop this season – but having such a quality option as a back up choice should Courtois succumb to injury is not something that they would pass up.

Others seem to subscribe to the school of thought that Cech has done too much for the Blues to be made to sit on the bench and see the best years of his career pass him by, and it seems that manager Jose Mourinho might just agree, with reports claiming he would be willing to allow Cech to leave out of respect for his decade at the club and his service during that time.

Either way, something that was simply not called for were the comments coming from current first pick Courtois, who admitted that he thinks Cech should leave the club, claiming: ‘As a goalkeeper you want to play. If I was in that situation where I didn’t play a lot, then I would leave too.

‘I think Petr is still a goalkeeper with a lot of quality and one of the best there is.’

Now whilst we appreciate the nod to Cech’s ability, it is worth noting that the long serving Chelsea star has been in this situation before – with the roles reversed – when he usurped Carlo Cudicini at the club and not once did Cech claim he thought the Italian should leave.

However well intended, the comments are simply unnecessary and when you add them to the ones Courtois made about his national teammates not trying hard enough earlier in the week, it is easy to see that the Belgian is still young and has a long way to go when it comes to knowing when to speak to the media and when to remain quiet!

Chelsea fans. What is your take on the comments coming from Courtois? Do you think he has a right to express his opinion? Let us know your thoughts below or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
