Three Liverpool outcasts who impressed during the win over Swansea

Mario BalotelliTheir season could have gone from bad to worse, but thanks to three unlikely heroes, Liverpool and their manager Brendan Rodgers managed to scrape past Swansea in the Capital One Cup and march into the next round.

The Reds have come under increasing scrutiny in recent weeks and the summer spending by Rodgers has been analysed and criticised, with many feeling that the Luis Suarez money was NOT well spend and the reinvestment in players has been mediocre at best.

However, it was a couple of summer buys who dug the Reds out of what would have been quite a big hole against the Swans, and the goals could well kick start not one, but two careers at Anfield.

With that in mind, we have taken a look at the three players who saved the blushes of Liverpool and Rodgers.
