Both his managers trust himManchester United and England skipper Wayne Rooney is facing a career defining season.

At present, he is known as one of the best players in England – certainly in the national team – and a great player for Manchester United as well.

However currently the forward is in danger of being known as a very good player, but certainly not one of the all time greats.

Rooney has quality there is no denying it and at times, shows flashes of being a world class player – but he needs to do far more to actually earn that title.

Now handed the captain’s armband for both Manchester United and England, the stage is set for Rooney to really step it up a gear and have his best season yet.

With that in mind, we have come up with five reasons we think could mean Rooney will have the best season of his life and finally really reach the heights he hinted at during his earlier career.

    Roomey may well become record goalscorer…record cap holder but for me he is a decent but not a great regardless of what the stats say
