Finally in fourth place, what has been happening around Old Trafford this week?

This weekend saw Manchester United face a tricky fixture against Everton – and without their skipper to boot.

Wayne Rooney began his three match ban so manager Louis van Gaal chose to give Juan Mata a starting spot just behind Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao.

Everton played their part but it was Manchester United who looked the most dangerous. Sure enough a cross from Mata saw Angel Di Maria put the Red Devils in front.

The Toffees didn’t appear to be enjoying their trip to Old Trafford like they had done last season with even a Leighton Baines penalty saved by David De Gea, who was brilliant throughout the match.

Both teams scored in the second half, most notably Falcao who netted his first ever goal for United, and it was made even sweeter given it was in front of his home crowd.

Despite late pressure from the visitors the match ended 2-1 and United finished the weekend fourth.

Their match aside, here are five things we noticed this week.

Injuries mount up as Herrera gets ruled out for a month

United have had a difficult start to their season dealing with several injuries and while some such as Michael Carrick and Phil Jones are nearing a return, now new signing Ander Herrera has been ruled out for at least a month with a fractured rib.

The injury occurred during United’s 2-1 win over West Ham United. Herrera has been a valuable signing for the Red Devils and has even netted twice for his new club.

Angel Delight as Di Maria wins Player Of The Month

An online poll by ManUtd.com has overwhelmingly chosen Angel Di Maria as their Player Of The Month for September.

Winning 68 per cent of the votes the Argentine has made a big impact on supporters early on in his United career after having signed a five year contract back in August.

Featuring five times for the Red Devils, the 26 year old has been praised for his ability to create goals and assists and has so far dealt well with the physicality of the league despite his slim frame.

 LVG ends post-match drink tradition

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has revealed that to his dismay, Louis van Gaal has chosen to not continue the tradition of inviting visiting managers for a post-match drink.

Previous United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was well known for the practice which is seen as a chance to have a private conversation after a match.

Big Sam explained that after West Ham’s 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, he made his way to the room usually reserved for said drinks only to find it now used for match analysis.

Luke Shaw feeling pressure to perform – despite not facing Victor Moses yet!

As one of the world’s most expensive teenage signings you would forgive Luke Shaw for feeling a little overwhelmed.

The 19 year old has admitted that he is feeling the weight of expectations saying: ‘There’s a lot of pressure on me because I arrived here for a big fee and there’s attention that comes with that.’

Shaw signed for £30m from Southampton but only made his debut for United against West Ham due to a hamstring injury that has kept him out of action and was dire against Everton at the weekend.

Falcao agrees personal terms?

Despite having only signed a yearlong loan deal in August, it has been alleged that Columbian striker Radamel Falcao is already set to make the move more permanent.

The 28 year old transferred from Monaco for a £6m fee and if both parties can agree on personal terms then it is rumoured that the player will be offered around £43.5m to settle in the red half of Manchester.

Falcao has appeared four times for United and scored one goal.
