Phil Jagielka – Liverpool v Everton

The Merseyside derby is one of the most anticipated fixtures in the Premier League calendar and with the resurgence of both title contenders Liverpool and top four candidates Everton, far more than pride is at stake these days.

Both sides went into the match wanting all three points to aid their quest to push up the Premier League table but it was home side Liverpool who took the lead through a Steven Gerrard goal.

Given the likes of Mario Balotelli and Romelu Lukaku were on the field, it looked like there would be more goals – but the Everton equaliser came from an unlikely source at that.

Whilst we expect central defenders to get a few goals from set pieces throughout the season, we do not expect utter screamers on the volley from them – but that is exactly what Phil Jagielka produced in injury time no less to secure a draw for the Toffees!

One of, if not the best, goals we have seen in a long time!
