Chelsea are big spenders, we all know that at La Footyette HQ, but even we did not think the Blues would consider making a bid for Barcelona star Lionel Messi, but according to Metro, that is exactly what they are ready to do.
Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified Messi as the man to bring to Stamford Bridge in order to lift the Blues to the title and also the Champions League and will pay £118 million to do so.
Now whilst we think this is a great idea for the west London club on paper, in reality not only will they struggle to prize Messi away from the Camp Nou, but they are also forgetting the issues between Mourinho and Messi in the past – not to mention the rather difficult relationship both Chelsea and Mourinho have with Barcelona.
The one thing going in Chelsea’s favour is the fact that Messi has expressed an interest in playing in the Premier League and is all too aware that Cristiano Ronaldo supporters will always level the accusation that he has never done so against him. So much so that Messi has asked Gerard Pique and Cesc Fabregas about their time in England and would consider a move – for the right money of course.
Chelsea fans. Do you ever think Messi would join you? Just how much money would that take? Let us know your thoughts below or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
