Manchester United keen to sign former Liverpool star?

Metro certainly have Liverpool fans looking up after claiming that Xabi Alonso could well be a target for Manchester United.

The Real Madrid midfielder is currently considering his future at the La Liga side after seeing not only the arrival of Toni Kroos but also the contract extension handed to Luka Modric, and it comes as no shock at all that several of Europe’s elite clubs are monitoring the situation with interest.

We thought that Jose Mourinho may consider a move for Alonso, but it seems that Louis van Gaal will be the one to swoop and try and convince the Spaniard that a move back to the Premier League and to Old Trafford is the way forward.

Alonso has won everything there is to win in Spain -not to mention with the Spanish national side and a chance to add a Premier League winners medal to his collection could be the key Van Gaal needs to convince him to make the transfer.
