Five things Arsenal fans can expect this season

Arsenal Community ShieldYou wait so long for a piece of silverware and two come along at once.

Arsenal fans are currently on cloud nine after beating Manchester City to the Community Shield and we cannot blame them.

After being the whipping boys for the big three for so long and trolled by, well, just about everyone, it seems that the Gunners are getting back to their best and the general consensus in north London is that they will be a major force this season.

With that in mind, here are five things we think Arsenal fans have to look forward to this season.

The return of your worst nightmare

Yes, it is the Return of the King, Didier Drogba.

He might be the dream team man for Chelsea but for Arsenal fans, there are a fair few bad memories that come with the powerful forward.

Chelsea fans may not see Drogba at the peaks he reached back in his first spell at the club but they are expecting six points off Arsenal and the Ivorian to play a massive part in landing them.

At least Arsenal fans can take comfort in the fact that Senderos is no longer at the club.

Theo Walcott (Arsenal)Finishing well above north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur

Obviously. Spurs may like to think they are on a par with Arsenal but in all honesty they are the less attractive, ugly sister – and one who makes DVDs of single victories against their rivals because they never actually win trophies either.

Arsenal fans may have counted a top four spot and finishing about Spurs as their version of a trophy in times gone by, but this season, bigger things are expected and so they should be.

A title challenge until at least April

Brace yourselves, normally the Gunners fall in February, but with their summer signings and if they can keep key men like Aaron Ramsey fit and playing week in week out, we see no reason why they cannot go all the way until the end of March – or the beginning of April this season.

They may even get through to the latter stages of the Champions League as well, but in case this doesn’t happen and the #WengerOut trend starts up again, lets remember it’s one step at a time.

Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)A magic duo

Last season, fans only saw glimpses of what makes Mesut Ozil so special.

Now he has had a season to get used to life in the Premier League and settle in, more is required and the German magician will be looking to prove his growing band of doubters wrong and deliver.

He will be helped by the arrival of Alexis Sanchez, who has now assumed the mantle of Messiah and title bringer to relieve some of the pressure off the understated Mesut, and the two could link up to devastating effect this season if given the right chances by Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal CupBuilding on the FA Cup success

The Community Shield win may have been scoffed at by those who didn’t win it, but Arsenal can only win what is on offer in front of them – unless it is the Emirates Cup obviously.

Now they have broken their duct by winning the FA Cup and shown it was not a fluke by going on and landing the pre-season curtain raiser as well – against Manchester City no less- they will be looking to add to that pile of silverware and show that the good times are back at the Emirates once again.

Arsenal fans. What are you expecting from this season? Are you hoping for a trophy of note or will it be doom and gloom at the Emirates once again? Let us know your thoughts below or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
