Mehdi BenatiaMetro have our Footyettes looking up with interest today after they claimed that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho could well be edging closer to a £30 million summer signing.

Despite the Blues boss claiming he was done with putting his hand in Roman Abramovich’s pocket this summer it seems that the lure of Roma defender Mehdi Benatia is too good to resist.

After seeing David Luiz leave Stamford Bridge, Mourinho is keen to make sure he has adequate cover at the heart of his defence.

The Special One has made it very clear he plans to challenge on four fronts this season after finishing last term without any trophies whatsoever, meaning a top quality squad is vital.

Manchester United have also been linked with the Roma star but it seems that the call of Stamford Bridge and the chance to play in the Champions League with Chelsea – not to mention under Jose Mourinho – will clinch the deal for the Blues.

Chelsea fans. Would you rather buy another forward or do you think cover at the back is even more vital than goals up top? Let us know your thoughts below or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
