How this player is still playing in the Championship is beyond me— he’s lively, tough and a brilliant goal scorer. In the 2013-2014 season he was the Championship’s top scorer, having scored 29 goals.
We so very nearly got our claret and blue hands on McCormack last January—West Ham were reported to have placed a bid for the Scottish footballer and, when Leeds abruptly sacked manager Brian McDermott mere hours before the transfer window shut, there was a last minute grasp of hope that McCormack might be tempted from Elland Road.
It wasn’t to be, but with the Daily Mail reporting that he is set to leave Leeds over the club’s treatment of Brian McDermott, there is hope that, should West Ham still be interested (and in any club where Kevin “offsides” Nolan is your top scorer you should be interested in signing a prolific goal scorer) McCormack might be tempted with a move south.
There’s a hefty price tag on the player – rumored to be around the £8 million mark – but he just might be worth every penny.
It remains to be seen how West Ham will spend their £20 million war chest, particularly as we tend to have a penchant for free transfers (and why not), but provided we buy smart and buy well, I’ll be a happy Hammer.
