lampard uclIt seems that Ashley Cole may not be the only long serving Chelsea player to leave the club this summer – well if BBC Sport are to be believed that is.

According to the well known website, Frank Lampard has seen his contract talks with the Blues stall and has thus been placed on their list for players who are available on a free transfer.

Now before Chelsea fans burst into tears, it is worth noting that it actually does not mean too much – with the midfielder now officially out of contract and yet to sign the deal that has been offered to him placing him on said list is more of a formality than anything else.

The hold up with the contract talks seems to be over wages and the proposed pay cut – much like the one John Terry was forced into taking.

However, if Jose Mourinho and Chelsea did not want the player to stay at the club they would simply have negated to offer a one year extension – a la Ashley Cole.

Clearly Chelsea and Lampard are hopeful there can be an agreement – but if there is not, we can only imagine the player being inundated with offers.

Do you think that Lampard will sign that one year deal on the table from Chelsea? Let us know your thoughts below.
