alves bananaIt was a weekend where the club never should have had to play a game, and Barcelona showed exactly why they are one of the greatest sides of the last decade by pulling a win out of the bag despite being told of their former manager’s passing less than 48 hours prior to kick off.

After going a goal down, the Cules would not have been blamed by anyone if they had just given up, and the second Villarreal goal could well have finished them off.

However, Messi and co displayed the stuff of Champions to come back and win the game 3-2, and keep themselves firmly in the hunt for the La Liga title to boot.

Not only did their players display an attitude to be proud of after Vilanova’s passing, Dani Alves also managed to make one of the most notable stands when it comes to the battle to kick racism out of football, eating a banana that was disgracefully thrown at him on the field.

They may not win the title this season, but it will not be for want of trying.
