Can Moyes lay down a marker in the game of the weekend?

epl-manchester-unted-vs-arsenal-356In their last league game, Manchester United met Fulham at Craven Cottage beating them 3-1, with Fulham’s only goal scored as an own goal by Wayne Rooney.

United gained three well deserved points and after four straight victories in all competitions, must be feeling like their old winning selves.

That is vital considering their next league challenge comes in the shape of Arsenal, who sit top of the pile with a sizable gap over the immediate chasing pack, let alone United.

After eight seasons with no trophies -they have of course had those all important, as good as a trophy top four finishes – Arsenal fans are starting to believe that not only may this be their best season in a while but that it might end with them claiming English football’s most coveted prize!

Arsenal fans do deserve a bit of happiness (apparently) but with not even half the season played they might want to reel back the excitement. Just a suggestion. Both Chelsea and Manchester City are hot on their tails and it only takes a few slip ups (like your skipper crying on the field after dropping points to say Birmingham) to ruin a season.

Last season the Red Devils beat Arsenal 2-1 at Old Trafford but only managed a 1-1 draw in their second meeting with the Gunners in what are always hotly contested matches.

Of course, since then Arsenal have had a much needed revival with the introduction of Mesut Ozil and the finally on form Olivier Giroud, while United seem to have lost something – other than just their long-standing manager.

United have been sticking with the strike partnership of Robin Van Persie (the former Arsenal skipper of course) and Wayne Rooney, resulting in eleven goals in eight Premier League games between them.

You would expect David Moyes to continue with this formation regardless of talk surrounding Javier Hernandez’s lack of playing time.

Hernandez is a top player and as we are well into a World Cup year it is understandable that with the January transfer window looming he is considering his future. From the club’s standpoint letting a player of Hernandez’s calibre leave or go on loan would be a mistake that could cost dearly should one of the regular strikers get injured or suspended.

With all the competitions United are playing in surely Moyes can find a place for him – failure to do so could cost Moyes both in terms of losing the forward and boosting another team should he join them.

United  have shown before that they are capable of taking all three points against Arsenal. They were of course the side who ended the Gunner’s unbeaten run (pizza anyone?) and back then Arsenal had a five point lead over Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea too.

All things considered, a 0-0 result from such an on form team wouldn’t seem too bad – but is that the United way?

United to win…. Arsenal to be shown that they lack quality up front.
