Premier League on red alert as Spanish legend eyes move

iker benched The Daily Mail has reported that a host of Premier League clubs could be placed on red alert this winter. The reason behind this? The declaration made by Iker Casillas, who seems to have finally tired of life on the Real Madrid bench.

After being dropped by Jose Mourinho last season and replaced by Diego Lopez, the Spanish legend has failed to win his place back. This is despite a media campaign supporting the player, not to mention a change of manager.

The form of Lopez has been credited as the reason behind this, and his heroics against Villarreal even had Marca commending him. Casillas meanwhile has been stewing on the bench, and despite being told he will lead the club in their illusive hunt for La Decima, is reconsidering his future at the club he sees as his home.

The player was questioned about his future at the Bernabeu and claimed: ‘If the situation doesn’t change within three  months and you ask me the same question, I’d probably say that I’ll be looking  to leave.’

This has of course lead to a host of managers around Europe getting rather excited over a potential move for the keeper – none more so than Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who is on the hunt for a keeper and is a known fan of Casillas.

The Spaniard’s situation has no doubt been intensified by the decision of Spanish national team coach, Vicente Del Bosque, to give Victor Valdes a chance in between the posts for Spain. The Barcelona keeper is currently in the form of his life in what is his swansong season in La Liga and has more than justified a chance to show what he can do.

Casillas is only too aware than another six months on the bench whilst those around him excel could well be curtains for him come Brazil in the summer and would be willing to consider a move to prevent this.

Will Casillas make good on his threat? Let us know your thoughts below or tweet us @LaFootyettes.
