koke1Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past few months, you will be fully aware that Manchester United are slightly lacking in the middle of the park.

For all the United fans out there however, good news could well be on the horizon, as the Daily Mail report that the club are targeting someone dubbed the ‘next Xavi.’

High praise indeed, given the Barcelona midfielder is one of, if not the best, midfielder of a generation.

Whilst Atletico Madrid player Koke may not be the new Xavi – let’s face it there are none who will be – he is certainly making a few headlines.

At 21 years of age he is pushing for a place in the senior Spanish national team and is flying under Diego Simeone.

Being a starter for the best Atleti team in decades is no small matter, and when you add to that the fact that Koke is the leading assist provider to top scorer Diego Costa, it is clear the boy has serious skills.

Koke is a talent, there is no doubt about that. Nor is it surprising that Manchester United are tracking the player. If rumours are to be believed, they are even considering making a bid in January.

The only thing surprising about the whole situation is the fact that some people actually think United and David Moyes have a chance of landing him.

Under Diego Simeone, the club who used to be second in Madrid are now pushing for second in La Liga.

Atleti are a team to watch, and one that will only get better. A host of players turned down moves in the summer for that reason alone.

The players, Koke included, believe in the project Simeone has going, and do not want to leave it. Nor do Atleti need to sell, especially after raising such capital from the sale of Ramadel Falcao.

Will United be able to lure the starlet away? Let us know your thoughts below or tweet us @LaFootyettes.

Never mind United going after Athletico players, perhaps they should go for the manager….. Simeone is a winner and ever so passionate as well as being tactically astute.
