One move that never even seemed within the realms of possibility at La Footyette headquarters at the start of the summer was the transfer of Mesut Ozil. Yes the worst kept secret in football was that Gareth Bale would be arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu but no one thought that it would have been at the expense of the German International.
Now however Sky Sports News sources and the insatiable Jim White have broken the news that the deal has gone through and Arsene Wenger has pulled off what will certainly turn into one of the best deadline day deals of all time.
Ozil, who at 24 years of age is just about to head into the peak of his career, has signed a 5 year deal with the Gunners and yes, the club may have smashed their previous transfer record by spending £42.5 million, but the number ten will be worth every single penny.
What looked like being a summer of utter disaster for the Gunners has turned into one of the best in recent memory – not that there was really much competition to be fair. Ozil has his best years ahead of him, and whilst he will not be able to win Arsenal the title alone, rival teams are right to be worried about the little magician who has managed to notch up 55 assists and score 19 goals in only 105 La Liga games.
Clearly a brilliant player, Wenger will be hoping that Ozil can recreate the form that made him a darling of Los Blancos fans. Ozil himself spoke about the move and noted: “I’m looking forward to my future in the Premier League and at Arsenal,
“I look with pride on three wonderful years at Real Madrid, in which I’ve developed athletically and as a person.
“We won three titles and I was a regular, but now I look forward to my future in the Premier League with Arsenal.”

Great signing, Mesut Özil is one of the best footballers in the world right now. He’s played some fantastic football, and will go a long way to helping this Arsenal side move forward. I think as a squad, Arsenal still need some depth but with Özil being on a long contract they can build on the team over the next couple of transfer windows. Great signing, cannot wait to see him in the Premier League.
